Wilden PX4 plastic pump, 1.5-inch diameter, acid and alkali resistant, self-priming, and does not burn the mechanical seal.
If you work on a ship or in a chemical plant and are looking for a medium-sized pump that is corrosion-resistant and capable
of pumping dirty water, check out the Wilton PX4.
First figure out what it is for
PX4 is a pneumatic double diaphragm pump with a plastic housing and a diameter of 1.5 inches. In human terms: no electricity
is needed, just connect a trachea and you can pump. You are not afraid of acid, alkali and sea water, and there is no burning when
the air is empty.
It's stuck in the middle - larger than a small pump like the T15, smaller than a 2-inch pump like the T8. One person can't move it,
but two people can carry it.
What can I smoke?
Cabin washing water, acid-base kind
Oily bilge water
Sea water, salt water
Electroplating solution, wastewater
Inks, coatings, solvents
chemical transfer
What can't you smoke? Long-term soaking in high-temperature hot oil, large rocks, and strong solvents. These need to be replaced
with metal pumps.
Where is it usually used on ships?
Chemical tank tank washing water, metal pumps are always corroded, but the PX4 plastic shell is not afraid.
Bilge water contains oil, mud and rust. Its flow channel is wide and small particles can pass through directly.
To temporarily transfer chemicals on the deck, just connect the air pipe and use it without pulling the cable.
When repairing the ship, it is convenient for two people to carry it around when pumping water and oil.
What's good about it
No machine seal. The pneumatic diaphragm pump does not have a rotating shaft, so the problem of leakage disappears from the
root. Oil leakage from engine seals on ships is a common problem, but this pump does not have this problem.
No burning when turned dry. The suction nozzle has been emptied, but it is still squirting and not burning. The centrifugal pump
has already started smoking.
Self-priming is good. Throw it in through the suction port, no need to fill it with liquid, just turn on the air and pump. Dry sucking
for over six meters.
Corrosion resistant. The plastic shell is not afraid of seawater acidity and alkali. The PVDF version is more ruthless and can withstand
strong acids and alkalis.
No electricity required. Next to the oil tank and chemical tank, the trouble of explosion-proof wiring is saved. However, flammable
pumps must be grounded, and the anti-static diaphragm cannot be omitted.
Save your energy. The Pro-Flo X air valve uses less air than the old model, which is true when the air compressor on board is not
powerful enough.
What's wrong with it
Gas consumption. The 1.5-inch pump takes a lot of air. If the air compressor is small, it will compete with other equipment for air.
Quarrel. The sound of the exhaust coupled with the impact of the valve balls makes the cabin sound quite lively. It would be better
if you add a silencer, but don't expect quietness.
Diaphragms are consumables. If the things you pump are highly corrosive, have high temperatures, and run frequently, the
diaphragm will need to be replaced quickly. Spare parts must be kept on hand.
Afraid of heat and pressure. PP shell is 79 degrees, PVDF is 107 degrees, no matter how high it is. The pressure is only about 8
kilograms.
static electricity. The plastic shell is not conductive, so the solvent and oil being pumped must be grounded, and the anti-static
diaphragm must be selected correctly.
PP or PVDF? Buy for nothing if you choose the wrong one
PP is cheap and resistant to weak acid and alkali seawater. Generally, sewage tank washing water is enough.
PVDF is expensive and resistant to strong acid and alkali solvents, so it is the choice for chemical tankers and chemical plants.
Diaphragms must also be matched: PTFE is the most corrosion-resistant, FKM is oil-resistant and temperature-resistant, EPDM is
cheap and water-resistant, and Santoprene is wear-resistant and suitable for particles.
What is the difference between T8 and T15?
The T15 is a half-inch small pump that can be carried around and pump a small amount.
The PX4 is one and a half inches, medium flow, and can be lifted by two people.
T8 is two inches, has a large flow rate and is heavier.
Remember: a small amount of T15, a medium amount of PX4, and a large amount of T8.
Just remember these things for maintenance
Add a filter and pressure reducing valve to the air source to prevent water, oil and impurities from entering.
Don't keep the outlet valve fully closed for a long time, as the diaphragm will be damaged quickly if you hold it in for a long time.
The flammable pump must be grounded, and the anti-static diaphragm should be omitted.
If the pump cavity is depleted and disabled in winter, the plastic will freeze and crack and it will be difficult to repair.
The diaphragm valve ball is selected according to the medium. If the ball is selected correctly, the life span will be several times worse.
One sentence summary
PX4 is a pneumatic diaphragm pump that is not too big or too small, is corrosion-resistant, can run dry, has no mechanical seal,
and can be lifted away by two people. It handles tasks such as cabin washing, bilge water, and chemical transfer very smoothly.
Choosing PP or PVDF is more important than choosing a model.
